COMPLETED

Immersion!

Now that I am a million years old and my imagination is dull as a blob of butter, true immersion is a rare occurence. When I was a kid, all I needed was 29 green and yellow pixels to portray descending space horrors horrible enough to make killing hundreds upon hundreds of them it an utter necessity (Planetoid - Defender clone for Acorn Electron - my return key was never the same). I still like games with a 5-digit pixel count (81920 pixels should be enough for any game), but the concentration and focus of those days may sometimes be missing.

But Fallout 3 provides a world so convincing and interesting that I get completely immersed.

- Thanks to Joakim for this wonderful Christmas present!

Mmmm... post-apocalyptic serenity.

  • I just killed Paradise Falls. Damn slavers. Didn't seem like the dialogue was prepared for that option. The Lamplighter kid talked about 'they're not going to forget this, you know'. Who's he talking about? I killed them all! Damn slavers.
  • Talked to the president. Convinced him of the error of his ways. Now 'Take it Back!' is looking me in the face, and I don't know whether I should buy 'Broken Steel' or not...
  • And I've bought it.
  • Completed the game (Main Quest). Awesome, awesome game!
  • Dammit, this ending stuff is completely broken. I had to retry the ending 4 times to get it right. It seems you have a time limit to do the final thing in the game, and if you don't, you still get an ending, and you'll never know that you didn't get it right. Also, the Broken Steel ending seems tacked on.

  • Damn. The game froze on me. First, the death of the AWESOME Liberty Prime, and now this? I'm going to bed.
  • 2012-07-21
  • Completed the game (Broken Steel DLC). I got a sudden urge for some post-apocalyptic fun. I was pretty close to the end of this DLC, so I finished it without any problems. Playing other western RPGs like Skyrim in the meantime has taught me lessons that could help me enjoy Fallout more. Like focusing on a few weapon groups and skills and ignoring all others, not picking up any non-essential stuff, not touching any crafting at all, not going overboard with stealth, and not gambling with low health (it helps a lot to assign Stimpaks to the D-pad).
  • Finally back home in my Megaton house after being away for two years! Threw a bunch of weapons in a locker, healed myself with my newly installed 'My First Infirmary', and went to bed and slept for 23 hours.
  • 2012-07-22
  • Got the Oasis achievement. - I've been getting some of the sidequests done, but 'Oasis' was very unique, and incorporated a nice dilemma to ponder. The main character, Harold, is amazingly well voice acted, some of the best in this game.
  • 2012-08-02
  • Got the Big Trouble in Big Town achievement. - This quest got easier once I realized that fast travelling totally works for escort missions. Silly... Cleaning up some of the quests in Fallout 3.
  • Got the You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head achievement. - I am level 29 ... I have an idea related to an upcoming level change.
  • Got the One-Man Scouting Party achievement. - Yay, discovered 100 locations!
  • 2012-08-03
  • Got the Messiah achievement. - I just became level 30 with Good Karma.
  • Got the True Mortal achievement. - And ... after reloading my save and doing some random murdering and stealing in Megaton, became level 30 with Neutral Karma. :D
  • Got the Devil achievement. - And after another reload, going Resident Evil on Underworld, and having a hilarious grenade-based rampage in Rivet City, I became level 30 with Evil Karma.
  • 2015-06-21
  • Random Achievement Challenge: 'The Bigger They Are... - Kill all the Super Mutant Behemoths'. There are five of them:
    1. GNR Building Plaza
    2. West of Jury Street Metro Station in the train yards
    3. Evergreen Mills
    4. Capitol Building
    5. Between Takoma Park and Takoma Industrial.
I think I got the first one already.
  • The Evergreen Mills one is already dead.
  • Jury Street Metro Station SMB is no more.
  • Got the The Bigger They Are... achievement. - Takoma Industrial SMB is pushing up the daisies. That was all of them.
  • I started a new character to try and go for some of the last achievements. Syltegirl is morally ambiguous (neutral karma ready to go all out evil before level 7), and she's designed for shooting people with high Agility (action points), Intelligence (more perks when leveling up), and Luck (more critical hits).
  • I immediately went for the Strictly Business quest, surprising people, stunning them with my Mesmetron, stealing all their stuff, and putting an exploding collar on them. Syltegirl does not care.
  • Got the Strictly Business achievement. - I 'retrieved' all the slaves for Paradise Falls. Now I'm just missing 'Scientific Pursuits', which I should be able to begin right now, and 'The Nuka-Cola Challenge'.
  • Got the Scientific Pursuits achievement.
